There are few places left on the planet’s surface where you can get truly ‘lost’, but we still try anyway. No-one wants to ACTUALLY get lost though, which is why Tokn app allows you to nominate a contact who will be contacted with details of your whereabouts and what you had planned to do in the event you don’t make it safely back to base. The way it works is you set a tokn, adding your friend’s contact details and a geo location marker to record exactly where you are. Add a note about what your plan is and set the timer. If you don’t check in with the app and deactivate the tokn before the timer runs out your friend will be texted and advised that there might be a problem and they should try and get in touch with you. The great thing here is that the tokn sits on the developers servers and will make contact for you even if your phone has stopped working – which is entirely possible if you have an accident around water for example. On the downside if your battery goes flat and you fail to shut the tokn down, you could be worrying a friend without cause. It’s currently only on iOS and free to download and use.
