I love my technology but it all needs power, and the average UK home now consumes around 20% more power than in the 1970s. It’s a massive part of the yearly budget for most and with energy prices going up and down like a Yo-yo on the global market it might surprise you to learn that around two-thirds of UK households have never changed supplier. Voltz is a brand new app launched today that wants to make it super-easy to ensure you are always on the best tariff by keeping an eye on things for you. The iOS app is free on the app store now with an Android version due at the end of February. It takes a few minutes to register and add details about your current plan and consumption, but after that the app will do all the hard work for you, sending a monthly reminder with details about whether you can get a better deal by switching. I used it myself this morning and it told me I could save £244. The next step is supposed to be to let the app handle the switching process for you online too, although in my case it served up an apology and a telephone number to call the supplier in person.
Sure enough though, by switching tariff with the same company I was already using I have reduced my monthly debit by £24 – plus my supplier gave me a £500 refund on the over payments I have made this year!! Now that is what I call a result! Tariff information on Voltz is comprehensive and 100% impartial and the company states it does not take sales commission from the energy suppliers. The best bit is I don’t have to think about this any more until the app pings me a message that it’s time to make another change.
