If your digital camera has been stolen there might be a way to track it down. Every photo you take contains hidden information called exif data. StolenCameraFinder.com is a simple search tool that looks for that hidden data in photographs posted across the web. Just drop an unedited photo taken with the camera in the box and it’ll scour the web for any other photos with the same serial number hidden in the meta data. If you find one you might even be able to track down where it was taken using Jeffrey’s Exif Viewer, which extracts the exif data, including GPS markers, from any photo you put into it from your hard drive or a URL. If the camera thief has been foolish enough to publicly post a photo from his back garden, complete with GPS location data, just don’t go tackling them yourself. Leave that bit up to the professionals and send the information to the police.
